Whats the future for 50 over cricket?

Come the next world cup in 2011 the 50 over game could be on its last legs. From the past few weeks its obvious that crowds are likening to the new Twenty20 IPL and the ODI 50 over game looks dead. People are preferring bigger hits, faster bowling and more athletic fielding. I still hope that 50 over games have a future, they’ve been the basis of drumming cricket fans into test cricket and proving us the basis of the cricketing future. Whether or not Twenty20 cricket will be able to bridge that gap with the same effectiveness will be a question that needs answering.

What the IPL has given us is what the Kerry Packer series gave cricket those years ago; a new revolution. People woke up to 50 over cricket then just like they’re waking up to the IPL now.

Its sad but true…and test-cricket is out of the picture altogether…I still enjoy…the 5-day form with mind-games and pitch conditions and each sessions changing strategies…

  2. The main issue for the 50 over game are those middle 25 overs. The bit after the power plays, when the batting side (normally the one batting first) just taps the ball around for singles because the field has been spread so far and wide you’d think they were performing a man hunt.
If that aspect of the game is fixed (somehow) then 50 over cricket can still have a place within the game.

Future of Test cricket? Well, Ray Mali and David Morgan have been glued to their seat, one watching through the telescope and another fixing eyes on microscope. They are yet to come up with any such thing. I reckon both would eventually come up with the clarification that Future of Test cricket is just a hoax, with no element of truth whatsoever in it.

I much prefer test cricket to Twenty20 cricket and there’s no way test cricket will die out.
